Cycling Tour in Bulgaria

Exotica and coziness at the same time in the heart of the Balkan Peninsula - that means valleys and mountains, woods and lakes, cities and villages, historical and cultural monuments, natural phenomenon and all this combined with a skillful guide and accompanying car for your luggage. |

Route
Day 1: Arrival at Sofia (550 m/1827 ft). Overnight at Bulgaria
hotel (3 stars).
Day 2: Sofia to Veliko Turnovo (230 km/143 miles):
Transfer by small bus to the city of Veliko Turnovo (mediaeval capital
of Bulgaria). Sightseeing of the town (Tsarevets hill with the
stronghold,
which dates back from the middle Ages and some churches). Overnight in
Veliko Turnovo (220m/730ft) at hotel Yantra (3 stars).
Day 3: Veliko Turnovo to Kazanluk (100 km/62 miles):
Cycling through the Shipka pass (1150 m/3820 ft) to the town of
Kazanluk.
Sightseeing for the day - Dryanovo Monastery, monument on the Shipka
Pass,
the church in the village of Shipka. Overnight in Kazanluk (400 m/1329
ft) at hotel Kazanluk (3 stars).
Day 4: Kazanluk to Plovdiv (105 km/65 miles):
Sightseeing: the Thracian Tomb in Kazanluk, the mountain passage Pavel
Banya - Brezovo in Sredna Gora mountain. Overnight at Leipzig hotel (3
stars) in Plovdiv (166 m/544 ft).
Day 5: Sightseeing of Plovdiv (Old Town - some old houses and
churches and the Roman Amphitheater). Overnight at Leipzig hotel.
Day 6: Plovdiv to Devin (90 km/56 miles):
The route passes through the picturesque valley of Vutcha river and
past Antonivanovtsi dam. Overnight at private hotel in Devin (700
m/2325
ft).
Day 7: Devin to Dospat (65 km/41 miles):
The next stage (20 km/13 miles) between Devin and the village of Teshel
(700 m/2295 ft) is along an asphalt road. Cycling to the cave
"Yagodinska"
(1100 m/3607 ft), a tour of the cave and back to the village of Teshel
(16 km/10 miles). Optional - visiting the natural reserve "Kotlinite"
in
the valley of Mugla river (a part of the road is a cart track).
Overnight
at private hotel in Dospat (1200 m/3987 ft).
Day 8: Dospat to Gotse Delchev (55 km/34 miles):
Cyclists go through the beautiful Rhodope Mountains. Overnight at
private
hotel in Gotse Delchev (500 m/1661 ft).
Day 9: Gotse Delchev to Bansko (50 km/31 miles):
Sightseeing of the old town in Bansko - churches, houses, museums.
Overnight at private hotel in Bansko (950 m/3156 ft).
Day 10: Bansko to Vihren chalet and back (35 km/22 miles):
Cycling to the Vihren chalet (1950 m/6478 ft). Optional - climing the
Todorin peak (2746 m/9123 ft) by the lift. Overnight at the same hotel
in Bansko.
Day 11: Bansko to Rila Monastery (100 km/62 miles):
The route passes through the district "Predela" (the boundary between
Pirin and Rila mountains). Cycling to the town of Blagoevgrad and
sightseeing.
Overnight at hotel Tsarev Vrah (3 stars) near Rila Monastery (1147
m/3811
ft).
Day 12: Sightseeing of the biggest Bulgarian monastery - the
Rila Monastery. Overnight at hotel Tsarev Vrah.
Day 13: Rila Monastery to Samokov (90 km/56 miles).
Sightseeing of the Bairakli mosque in Samokov. Overnight at private
hotel in Samokov (950 m/3156 ft).
Day 14: Samokov to Sofia (60km/37 miles):
Cycling along the valley of the Iskar river to Sofia. Sightseeing of
the capital Sofia - national museum, churches, mosques. Overnight at
Bulgaria
hotel.
Day 15: Flight back home.
A small bus takes you to Sofia airport. Flight home.
