Hiking in Bulgaria - Balkan Mountains

 
Balkan mountains is the largest Bulgarian mountain ridge, which divides the country in two almost equal regions. This monuntain is an important climatic border at the same time. Our route spread the highest and middle part of the Balkan mountains with a lot of peaks over 2000 m. The highest peak Botev (2376 m) is to be climbed, too.                                       
           

BALKAN MOUNTAINS
Hiking Program - 8 days
               Requirements
The tourists should be able to hike for 6 to 8 hours, sometimes even more. Tourists should be  in possession of alpine equipment.

            Route
Day 1: Sofia - Beklemeto (150 km/ 93 miles):
Transfer with a small bus from the airport of Sofia (550 m/ 1774 ft) via the Under-Balkan-Road through the Karnare Village and the pass of Troyan (1525 m/ 4919 ft) to the Beklemeto region (1320 m/ 4258 ft). You spend the night at the hotel Via Trayana (3 stars).
Day 2: Beklemeto - chalet Eho - Rozino (6-7 hrs):
Hotel Beklemeto to the chalet Kozia Stena (1560 m/ 5032 ft), chalet Eho (1650 m/ 5322 ft) and the village of Rozino (550 m/ 1774 ft). Transfer with a small bus to the hotel Via Trayana. Overnight at the same hotel.
Day 3: Beklemeto - chalet Dermenka - Sopot (6-7 hrs):
Hotel Via Trayana - chalet Dermenka (1480 m/ 4774 ft) - chalet Nezabravka (1640 m/ 5290 ft) - upper lift station. Transfer with the lift to the town of Sopot (480 m/ 1548 ft). Transfer with a small bus to the region of Beklemeto. Overnight at the same hotel.
Day 4: Beklemeto - town of Sopot - Kupena peak - Karlovo (8-9 hrs):
Transfer with a small bus from the Beklemeto region to the town of Sopot. The lift is used to the upper lift station. A hiking follows via the chalet Dobrila (1800 m/ 5806 ft) to the Kupena peak (2169 m/ 6996 ft). You reach the town of Karlovo (420 m/ 1354 ft) via the peaks Zhaltets (2050 m/ 6613 ft), chalet Levski (1450 m/ 4677 ft) and chalet Hubavets (964 m/ 3110 ft ). Transfer with a small bus to the region of Panitsite (850 m/ 2742 ft). Overnight at the hotel Paradise Place (3 stars).
Day 5: Panitsite region - peak Paradzhika and back (8-9 hrs):
You reach first the peak Yurushka Gramada (2211 m/ 7132 ft), which is situated on the central ridge of the Balkan mountains. You visit after that the peak Paradzhika (2137 m/ 6893 ft), which is situated on the central ridge, too. A return via the so called official path to the Panitsite region follows. Overnight at the same hotel.
Day 6: Panitsite region - peak Botev and back (10 hrs):
You hike via the chalet Rai (1600 m/ 5161 ft) to the peak  Botev (2376 m/ 7664 ft). After that you hike to the saddle between the peaks Botev and Ravnets. You cut the Botev peak massif  and via the chalet Rai you reach the region of Panitsite. Overnight at the same hotel.
Day 7 (Reserve day): Panitsite region - chalet Tazha - peak Triglav and back (6-7 hrs):
You reach the chalet Tazha (1500m/ 4839 ft) using a Jeep.You walk after that to the massif of the peak Triglav (3 peaks) where you visit some of the peaks. The highest peak has 2276 m/ 7342 ft. You are going back to the region of Panitsite. Overnight at the same hotel.
Day 8: Panitsite region - Sofia (165 km/ 102 miles):
You reach the airport of Sofia via the town of Kalofer. Flight home.

    

Optimal season: May till October
Group size: min 1; max 15

REMARKS

Normally our company ensures:
     - full board;
     - Accompanying of the group by an English speaking guide from Sofia to Sofia;
     - Transfer - from Sofia to Sofia;
     - Car for the luggage;
     - Overnight at hotels after the program (2-bed rooms).
