Hiking in Bulgaria - Rila Mountains

ila with highest peak Moussala 2925m is the highest mountain in Bulgaria and on the Balkan Peninsula. You will climb several peaks more than 2000m in height. You will enjoy beautiful lakes, centuries-old forests, towns, new resorts and a number of cultural monuments as well as natural phenomena.                                       
           

RILA MOUNTAINS
Hiking Program - 8 days
               Requirements
Tourists should be in good physical condition. They should be able to hike for 5 to 7 hours, sometimes even more. Tourists should be  in possession of alpine equipment because the routes often go above the height of (2000 m/6500 ft) and sudden changes of weather are possible.
            Route
Day 1:  Sofia to Sapareva Banya (85 km/53 miles):
Arrival at Sofia airport. Travel by small bus to the town of Sapareva Banya. Overnight at the camping Verila.
Day 2:  Sapareva Banya to Rilski ezera chalet (6-7 hrs):
The hiking begins with a 3-hour climbing along the beautiful valley of Valyavitsa river. You reach Panichiste resort (1350 m/4429 ft) and Skakavitsa chalet (1876 m/6155 ft) - 3,5h. On the three-hour way to Sedemte Ezera chalet (2196 m/7205 ft) tourists can see some of the famous Rila Lakes. You spend the night at the beautiful Rila Lakes chalet - for 40min more.
Day 3:  Rilski ezera chalet to hotel Malyovitsa (7 hrs):
The path goes through the marvelous region called the Seven Rila Lakes and climbs on to Damga peak (2670 m/8760 ft) and Dodov peak (2661 m/8730 ft). Then you climb Malyovitsa peak (2729 m/8953 ft), which is the symbol of Bulgarian climbing. Then you pass by Lake Elenino and in the end reach Malyovitsa hotel (1720 m/5643 ft) - 2 stars for overnight.
Day 4:  Malyovitsa hotel to Rila Monastery (8-9 hrs):
First we reach Strashnoto ezero shelter and go round Popova kapa peak (2704 m/8871 ft). Then the path goes downward through shelter Kobilino Branishte  (2145 m/7037 ft) until it reaches the Rila Monastery (1147 m/3811 ft). Overnight at Tsarev vrah hotel (3 stars).
Day 5:  Rila Monastery to resort Semkovo (9 hrs):
The road along the valley of the River Rilska leads us to the Ribni Ezera chalet (2230 m/7316 ft), which is situated between two alpine lakes, called the Fish Lakes. A climbing to the Vapa peak (2532 m/8412 ft) and descending to Semkovo resort (1580 m/5184 ft) follows. Overnight at hotel Bor (2 stars).
Day 6:  Semkovo resort to hotel Treshtenik (6 hrs):
Walking through the pine forest to Suhoto Ezero (the Dry Lake) and to the hotel Treshtenik (1764 m/5860 ft) for overnight.
Day 7:  Hotel Treshtenik to Borovets resort (10 hrs):
The day begins with climbing to Granchar chalet (2185 m/7169 ft). Afer that follows climbing to the peaks Marishki chal (2765 m/9071 ft), Bliznatsite (2779 m/9117 ft) and finally on the top of Moussala (2925 m/9596 ft) - the highest on the Balkan peninsula. You descend to the Borovets resort (1300 m/4318 ft) where a small bus takes you to the town of Samokov (10 km/6 miles) for overnight at private hotel.
Day 8:  Samokov to Sofia (60km/37 miles):
A small bus takes you to Sofia airport. Flight home.
    

Optimal season: June till September
Group size: min 1; max 15

REMARKS

Normally our company ensures:
     - full board;
     - Accompanying of the group by a foreign language speaking guide from Sofia to Sofia;
     - Transfer - from Sofia to Sofia;
     - Car for the luggage;
     - Overnight as mentioned in the program - hotels, camping (2-bed rooms).
